Pauillac - Famille J.M Cazes AOC Pauillac 2015
A result of the refining of the domaine’s selection of plots, Pauillac - Famille J.M.
Cazes, Château Lynch-Bages’ 3rd wine, was created in 2009. This wine comes
from young plants and plots which are not used in making the second wine, Echo
de Lynch-Bages, and is defined by its resounding Pauillac character, typical of its
terroir and marked by the predominance of Cabernet Sauvignon.
The Vintage
After a winter characterized by quite cold temperatures and some rain, although
not excessive, the soils were well-loaded with water without being overly damp.
Bud break was homogeneous, although in some cases slightly late, and took
place in good weather conditions ensuring healthy crop development.
The very favorable conditions ensured that flowering was concentrated at the end
of may and beginning of june.
The rest of june became hot and dry and the vines were faced with significant
water stress.
Berry veraison was first reported on 16 July, before a series of rainy spells and
a drop in temperature, bringing back good ripening conditions and enabling the
aromatic potential of the grape varieties to be preserved. The reds became
engorged with juice, in particular the Merlot, and their veraison ended rapidly.
Following a rainy period, picking took place by hand between 17 September and
8 October. The bunches’ sanitary state was perfect.
Tasting Note
The 2015 vintage has a bright purple colour. It presents a complex, aromatic
bouquet, with a perfectly-balanced blend of fruity and toasty notes. The attack is
direct and supple, followed by fresh aromas underscored by silky tannins. A wine
for the best tables!
